1. Consultation
Your journey to a beautifully straight smile starts with getting in touch. We’ll respond to you the same day and arrange a complimentary initial consultation appointment at whichever of our two Edinburgh Smiles clinics is most convenient for you.
‘During the consultation, your teeth will be carefully assessed to check that you are suitable for Invisalign clear aligners. We will then discuss the Invisalign process with you and give you an accurate estimate of cost and length of treatment. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have.
2. Scans
If you decide to proceed with Invisalign we will then make another appointment for you so that we can gather all the necessary clinical data required to start your treatment.
This involves a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, taking moulds or a digital scan of all your teeth, photographs and an x-ray.

4. Fit
The following appointment is when we fit your first set of Invisalign clear aligners. We will demonstrate how to insert/remove the aligners properly and tell you everything you need to know about wearing and looking after your aligners. We will also provide you with further sets and let you know exactly when to move on to each subsequent set and when to return for your first review appointment.
3. ClinCheck
Using all the data collected, we design your customised treatment plan and then invite you in to view a digital simulation (the ClinCheck) which shows how your teeth will move at each stage of the treatment and how they will look when fully straightened. Once you are happy with the plan and the proposed final result, we organise for your Invisalign clear braces to be delivered to the clinic.
5. Reviews
We will review your treatment at 4-6 week intervals so we can check your progress and make any adjustments needed to allow the teeth to continue towards their final fully aligned position. Once we have checked that the teeth have moved into the desired position at each stage, we provide you with further sets and then repeat this process until you have reached your final set of Invisalign aligners.
6. Final Check
Once you have finished your course of treatment and reach the final stage, we assess your teeth and make sure that you are completely satisfied with your new smile. We expect your teeth to be fully straightened by now but if there is any tweaking to be done then we will always be happy to provide you with additional aligners at no extra cost to allow these final small adjustments to be completed.
8. Retainers
The final (and very important) stage of treatment is to provide you with a set of retainers to ensure that your new smile stays completely perfect. There are lots of types of retainers and we will help you decide which type is best for you. We provide the first set of retainers free of charge and will give you full instructions about how to use them.
7. Free Tooth Whitening
The final stage in the process is to whiten your teeth (only if you wish!) and we will show you how to do this so you get the best results. This is provided free of charge for our Invisalign patients. We can also repair any chipped or worn teeth with dental bonding if any teeth require small improvements to their shape after they have been fully aligned.
